About the Saranac

The Saranac River headwaters are the Saranac Chain of lakes in the northern Adirondacks, in Franklin, Clinton and Essex counties, New York. It flows northeast and empties into Lake Champlain near the city of Plattsburgh. Below the dam in Saranac Lake, excellent trout fishing for brown and rainbow trout can be had in Bloomingdale and Franklin Falls. The river continues through Union Falls, Clayburg, Saranac and on into Plattsburgh before emptying into Lake Champlain.
